A debate show on Thanthi TV turned ugly after Seeman from Tamil National Party (TNP) called Naam Tamilar Katchi and CPI(M) leader Arunan ‘loosu’. They’d earlier accused each other of being political opportunists.
Seeman said that should CPI(M) beat TNP even by one seat, he would dissolve his party and join CPI(M) thus questioning the party’s integrity.
Subsequently, Arunan lost his cool and accused Seeman of being an opportunist and xenophobe. He also accused Seeman of misleading people about non-Tamils, and of using Periyar as a political tool but later taking an anti-Periyar stand.
Seeman who lost control over his tongue said “Yo, don’t speak like a loosu (mental/Insane)” .
A seemingly dumbstruck Arunan shot back with the same words that Seeman had used. “You are loosu,” he retorted.
TN BJP leader Vanati Srinivasan tried to intervene and requested both men to curb their emotions in a debate that was possibly watched by thousands of people.
The video of the said debate has gone viral on YouTube triggering another debate regarding the decency of political leaders who are invited on national television.
