10 sexiest new cars coming to India in 2015

It’s the new year, and already, we can tell you it has loads to offer as far as awesome cars are concerned. From kilometre-eating monsters to pocket-friendly hot hatches, check out this exciting line-up of new cars that are expected to be launched in India in 2015. If you’re a car enthusiast, this is your wet dream!

Let’s start off with the most expensive, and the coolest, car on the list, the BMW i8 Hybrid:

When: January 2015
How Much: ₹1.5-2.5 crore

At the 2014 Auto Expo, cricket legend and BMW brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar unveiled the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid for the Indian market and announced the car would be launched by the end of the year.

The i8 comes with a 1.5 litre, three cylinder twin turbo engine that pumps out 231 bhp at 320Nm of torque. The front wheels are connected to an electric motor that produces the equivalent of 131 bhp. Combined, the hybrid engine churns out a whopping 362 bhp at 570Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds.

2. Mercedes-Benz CLA

How Much: ₹30-35 lakh

BMW and Audi rule the luxury segment in India, but not for long. That is, if Mercedes-Benz have anything to say about it. And they do!

Launching this year are many new-age cars that the folks at Merc will hope helps their brand climb back into popularity and top the sales charts. The first of these cars is the Mercedes-Benz CLA. Positioned below the C-Class – essentially the sedan version of the A-Class – the CLA will offer three petrol engine options, the CLA 180 (producing 122 bhp), the CLA 200 (producing 156 bhp) and the CLA 250 (producing 211 bhp). There will also be a diesel option: the CLA 220 CDI, producing 170 bhp.

3. Toyota Vios

When: February 2015
How Much: ₹7.5-11.5 lakh

Toyota is omnipresent in the Indian car market, except in the C+ segment, and the Japanese giant is looking to correct that with the launch of the Vios. Already a hit in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, Toyota will hope the Vios will make a significant dent in India and bolster its brand in the country.

Filling the gap between the Etios sedan and the Corolla, the Vios will be powered by a 1.8 litre petrol engine generating 140 bhp and 173 Nm of torque. The diesel version will get a 1.4 litre turbocharged engine producing 88 bhp.

4. Jeep Grand Cherokee

When: March 2015
How Much: ₹35-50 lakh

Jeep has been an iconic brand the world over, India included, and with the Grand Cherokee, things are about to get even better!

In direct competition with the BMW X3, the Audi Q5 and the Land Rover Discovery 4, the Grand Cherokee boasts a 3 litre V6 diesel power plant that churns out 237 bhp and 549 Nm of torque. However, if you crave more power, there’s a 470 bhp, 6.4 litre petrol V8 behemoth at your service.

5. Ford B-Max

When: April 2015
How Much: ₹6-10 lakh

The MPV segment in India is hotting up with the recent launches of the Honda Mobilio and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Ford, not wanting to lose out, is planning to introduce its B-Max to the Indian market.

Based on the aggressive-looking Fiesta, and sporting the same Aston Martin-esque front end, the B-Max will most likely arrive with a 1.5 litre diesel engine that will produce 93 bhp and 203 Nm of torque.

6. DC Avanti

When: May 2015
How Much: ₹25-30 lakh

Indian car lovers first came across the Avanti concept at the 2012 Auto Expo. In 2014, DC Design unveiled the production-ready prototype, and now, in 2015, the ‘world’s cheapest supercar’ is set to hit the showrooms.

Modelled along the lines of the spectacular Ferrari 458 Italia, the Avanti will be powered by the critically acclaimed Ford EcoBoost 2 litre engine, producing 250 bhp and 360 Nm of torque.

7. Jaguar XE

When: June 2015
How Much: ₹30-45 lakh

Jaguar has always been a premium brand – as is evident with the XJ and XF models – but has yet to crack the entry-level sports car segment, which are dominated by the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

However, that will change this year when Jaguar launch the XE. Powered by a variety of engines – from a 1.8 litre block generating 184 bhp to a 300 bhp, 2.5 litre engine.

8. Fiat Punto Abarth

When: September 2015
How Much: ₹8-10 lakh

While there are no official reports, there are strong rumours that Fiat is looking to reinvent its brand in India. And what better than to bring in a hot hatch!

The Punto Abarth, expected in India in June, will probably be powered by a 1.4 litre T-Jet engine that produces 114 bhp and 207 Nm of torque.

9. Volkswagen Taigun

When: November 2015
How Much: ₹9-15 lakh

A sub-compact crossover SUV from the Volkswagen stable, the Taigun will slot below its elder brother, the Tiguan. Powered by a green 1 litre engine, the Taigun will most likely produce 110 bhp.

Its direct rivals: The Nissan Terrano, the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster.

10. Tata Nexon

When: December 2015
How Much: ₹7-10 lakh

First showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Nexon will be Tata’s offering in the compact SUV segment. However, expect the Nexon to hit the market only at the end of the year, of not the beginning of next year.

The Nexon will be powered by a 1.2 litre turbocharged engine capable of producing 110 bhp and 170 Nm of torque.
