All you need to know about Asin-Rahul Sharma’s fairytale romance

A chance meeting through a mutual friend, a flight together to an event and a coy hello – little did Asin know that this is all it would take for a fairytale romance and a beautiful ever after. As actress Asin gets ready to tie the knot with businessman boyfriend Rahul Sharma, here are all the details of their love story.

1. Asin took her first steps in the movie industry in 2001 with a Malayalam movie and after doing a number of films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, she forayed into Bollywood with Ghajini. She bonded very well with her Khiladi 786 co-star Akshay Kumar, and it was when Akshay and Asin were flying out in a private jet for a promotional event for Housefull 2, that Akshay introduced Asin to his “good friend” Rahul Sharma.

2. Asin thought of him as just another friend, until after the event, when Akshay dropped the ball and told her that Rahul will be a very good life partner for her. A surprised Asin thought this was just another of Akshay’s pranks, until she figured out during the course of the event who Rahul Sharma actually was, that it was his jet they were traveling in, his event they were going for and that he was the man behind it all.

3. Asin was immediately struck by the simplicity and down-to-earth nature of Rahul in spite of him owning a multi-millionaire company. What Rahul liked about her was that she too was a self-made woman. The two spoke over the phone a couple of times and soon after, Rahul realised that she was the girl he wanted to marry.

4. Like a true gentleman, Rahul asked Asin if he could meet her parents, telling her that he was sure she was “the one for him,” and that he wanted to make his intentions clear to her parents too. While he asked for her hand in marraige on the very first meeting, Asin wanted to get to know him better and asked him for some time. And the two started dating!

5. After keeping their relationship under wraps for almost 4 years, Asin finally admitted to be dating the Micromax mobile founder in an interview during the promotions of her film All Is Well last year. She spoke about how her real life love story had been “eerily similar” to her reel life love story of Ghajini. Actor Rishi Kapoor too sealed the rumours when he kept teasing her during the promotions saying, “Aap itna SHARMA kyun rahi hain?!”

6. The way Rahul proposed Asin for marriage is even more beautiful. When Asin was in Delhi for an event, Rahul invited her to the presidential suite of a luxury hotel, where he had created a treasure hunt for her. At the end of the hunt, she found Rahul dressed in a Kerala utfit, on his knees, with apparently a 20-carat solitaire ring worth Rs 6 crores, with the letters AR engraved on it. And he proposed to her in Malayalam!

7. Rahul and Asin’s wedding news came out in December last year, when the wedding invite was leaked online. The first card obviously went to ‘Best Man’ Akshay Kumar.

8. Asin and Rahul will tie the knot in both Hindu and Christian rituals in a low-key affair in Delhi on January 20, 2016. This will be followed by a big reception for their industry friends in Mumbai on January 23.
