If there is one thing that Indian politicians have been doing consistently, that is changing names of cities and towns. While we are still getting used to calling Gurgaon Gurugram, here is another place which is all set to get a new name!

Yes, the state of West Bengal is the target of politicians this time. The West Bengal cabinet has given a green signal to the proposal for changing the state’s name. If the proposal gets the Parliament’s approval, we will soon be calling the state either Bangla or Bongo in Bengali, and Bengal in English.

The news was confirmed by Partha Chatterjee, leader of Trinamool Congress party (TMC).

If reports are to be believed, the government wants to change the name of the state so that it does not come at the end of the alphabetical list of names of the states of India. Removing the ‘West’ from its name will move its name from the 28th position to the 4th position, alphabetically.

What do you think about this change?
