Andhra Pradesh’s  chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday announced that his government aims to build two-bedroom houses for six lakh roofless people and low income groups in the state at a cost of Rs 16,000 crores. According to news reports, the new housing programme is christened as “NTR Housing Scheme”.

Naidu launched the new housing scheme at Jakkampudi in Krishna district in coastal AP on the occasion of Dr B R Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary. Speaking at the meeting, Naidu said that he had laid the foundation for 10,000 units of the housing scheme in Jakkampudi.

The chief minister criticized the previous Congress government for its involvement in corrupting the housing schemes.

“In its 10-year tenure Rs 42,000 crore was released to build houses for the poor. In the released amount, only Rs 12,000 crore was spent for building houses. And the houses built during Congress regime are not in a livable condition,” Naidu said.

Naidu praised Ambedkar who strived to lessen the economic disparity between people in the country. The Telangana government is ahead of AP in launching and building two-bedroom houses/apartments for the poor.
