Times NOW editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami to receive “Y category” security cover from the government, following death threats by a Pakistani terrorist group.

Under the “Y category” protection, Goswami will receive round-the-clock protection from around 20 security personnel, which include 2 personal security officers, who will guard him in close proximity.

“Goswami is being given security on the basis of a threat-perception analysis by the IB. We will go by the IB recommendation. He faces threats from Pakistan-based terrorist groups due to his comments against them on Times Now,” said a home ministry official to Hindustan times.

The home ministry will likely instruct the Maharashtra police to handle Goswami’s security.

The government provides security under four categories:

Z Plus – Which provides 40 guards with two escort vehicles

Z – 30 security personals and one escort vehicle

Y – 20  security personals

X- 4 security personals

This is not the first time that a journalist has received protection from the government. Previously, journalists Sudhir Chaudhary of Zee News (X category), Umesh Kumar of Samachar Plus(’Y’ category) and Ashwini Kumar Chopra of Punjab Kesari (’Z Plus’ category) have been given security by the government.
