A five year old boy the name of Lakshya was admitted to Bengaluru’s Mallya Hospital on June 5, after injuring his finger at school. The doctors said that they had to operate on the finger, but something went terribly wrong during the surgery, as the boy slipped into a coma.

Lakshya’s parents were convinced that their child was in a critical condition due to the negligence of the hospital. Even though the doctors argued that child had a heart problem, the parents refuted the claim, saying that their child was fine. The family also claimed that there was a problem while administering anaesthesia.

Days latter, Lakshya’s vital organs have become stable. However, doctors apprehensive that Lakshya might have incurred brain damage and may not be able to identify his parents anymore. Doctors also reportedly said that the child may end up being paralyzed.

“The boy continues to be on ventilator support. The doctors have not given a time limit as such on when he will be out of it. But the 3rd MRI shows the kidney, heart and lungs are gaining stability. The extent of damage to the brain is yet to be known,”  said Vinod Reddy, a close friend of Lakshya’s family to News Minute.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Ministry has taken notice of the matter and said that severe action would be taken against any doctor or hospital for medical negligence.
