Bengaluru might soon be getting a new cricket stadium like Chinnaswami stadium. Reportedly, the sports complex is to be built on a Garbage dump area in Devarachikkanahalli, near Begur village.

An estimated Rs 41.15 crore has been given to Bengaluru under the Swachh Bharat initiative to transform the dumping ground into a international level sports complex.

Bommanahalli ward corporator, CR Rajmohan Raju, has  hired New Delhi-based firm KlimArt Private Ltd for the construction of the sports complex, according to the report by bangaloremirror.

The locals in area have been complaining about the health hazards of the garbage dump and have been requesting for the place to be cleaned up and to make way for playgrounds along with pathways. Solid waste management commissioner, Sarfaraz Khan said that it might take close to  Rs 1.9 crore just to level out the place, he said.

The sports complex will also include a gymnastics facility.“I would like to see more gymnasts from Bengaluru city. I want to see the project completed in 20 months after it takes off. It should launch on October 2, the day when PM launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” said Raju.
