According to the Shankaracharya of the Dwarka-Sharda peeth Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, the 2013 flash floods in Kedarnath were caused due to the “unholy things done by honeymooners and picnickers”.

The latest of his controversial rants came on Tuesday. Last week the nonagenarian seer said that allowing women into the sanctum sanctorum of Shani Shingnapur would lead to an increase in crimes against them. He also said that the drought in Maharashtra was a result of worshipping Shirdi Sai Baba.

The seer is known for his volatile views ever since he became the Shankaracharya in 1982. In February 2016, he attacked ISKCON calling it a “front for money laundering”. In an attack launched at RSS earlier, he said that while the outfit “claims to be working for Hinduism, thousands of RSS workers in Arunachal Pradesh eat beef”.
