Two very popular quotes in the matters of the heart – “love is blind” and “everything is fair in love and war”. This bizarre story is a stone-cold proof of the two.

42-year-old Asha Devi fell in love with her son-in-law Suraj and went on to marry him in a court with law with lawyers becoming their witness. Upon the couple returning back home, the Asha devi’s 19-year-old daughter lalita fainted in extreme shock.

Their love story began when  Asha Devi visited her unwell son-in-law at his village. The two soon fell in love. Even after Asha Devi returned back home, the two stayed in touch over the phone.

Eventually Suraj started visiting his mother-in-law, in the absence of Devi’s husband worked in Delhi. As their relationship grew stronger then ever, Suraj left his wife to stay with his mother-in-law.

Perplexed by this rather odd affair, the villagers called for a Panchayat to settle the matter. Considering that matters like this get very little tolerance in our country, the verdict was surprising. They believed that the two were in love with each other and gave couple their blessings to be happy.

After the incident Asha Devi’s husband took his daughter with him to Delhi, saying that her mother’s marriage would simply do her more harm.

“They have local society’s sanction and no complaint has been filed to allow us to legally intervene in any way,” police officials told HT.
