AIADMK leader and TN Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s birthday on February 24 is not just another day on the calendar. Amma-worshiping party workers pull out all the stops and ensure it’s a mega show.

Last year, 67 lakh saplings were planted to mark her 67th birthday, never mind that few seem to have flourished.

This year, party cadres went a step further, getting Amma tattoos inked on their forearms.

There was a 68-kilo cake at the party headquarters.

The freebie-loving government also announced Rs 10,000 for girl children born in government hospitals on the day.

There was free food distributed at Amma canteens.

Special pujas and yagnas were held in temples across the state. Besides praying for Amma’s health and well-being they would surely have been seeking divine intervention to ensure victory in the upcoming assembly polls as well.
