Kerala govt to raise siblings orphaned post temple tragedy in Kollam
The Kerala government will help raise siblings Krishna and Kishore who lost their parents to the fireworks tragedy in Puttingal temple, Kollam. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy directed the principal secretary of the state revenue department to submit a report on the orphaned children.
The state cabinet will consider the report in a week’s time. Krishna—a class 10 student—and her brother Kishore—a class seven student—had narrowly escaped the mishap that claimed the lives of their parents Bensi (44) and Baby Girija (41).
The couple were selling tea on the festival ground when the tragedy occured. Fortunately, they had sent the children home for the day.
The family was poor. Bensi was a vegetable hawker during the day and a tea vendor at night. They lived in an incomplete house allotted by the municipality.
