Let’s welcome the next ‘cheapest’ smartphone in India, shall we? Bengaluru-based Namotel’s ‘Namotel Acche Din’ priced at just Rs 99 may just be India’s most affordable and cheapest smartphone!

The company’s promoter Madhav Reddy said that the smartphone is available for pre-booking from May 17 to May 25 on the company’s website namotel.com. However, it was learnt that the website is not yet operational.

But here’s the catch—prospective buyers have to register on a website called bemybanker.com for a user ID and password to book the smartphone. And to complete the registration, the user has to pay a one-time fee of Rs 199. Ha!

It was also learnt that bemybanker.com has technical glitches—the registration process stalls abruptly midway.

As for the specifications, Namotel Acche Din sports a 4-inch display with 480×800 pixels WVGA resolution. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and packs 1GB RAM. The 4 GB internal storage can be expanded to 32 GB via microSD card. It has a 2 MP camera at the back and a VGA selfie camera. Connectivity options include 3G and dual-SIM.

Namotel claims that the price of the product was slashed from Rs 2,999 to Rs 99 and is available on cash-on-delivery basis. The company will also levy nominal delivery charges.
