You’ve heard Avril Lavigne, Pink and other main stream hard rock artists, but what about the underground Divas of Metal? The ones who have put glam and glitz in the back seat and believe in creating absolutely amazing music?

1) Angela Nathalie Gossow

Angela was the front member of the Melodic Death Metal band Arch Enemy. She rocked stages around the world with her guttural vocal style and a unique stage presence. Let Angela give you a lesson in pure, hardcore head banging, check out the video below.

2) Alissa White-Gluz

The next dark queen to take the Arch Enemy throne was Alissa White-Gulz. It’s hard to say who the better vocalist is, simply because both these angels of distortion are equally talented. At first look, Alissa might seem like a punk rock girl but once you hear her sing you will be shocked.

3) Morgan Lander

Morgan Lander is the front member for an all-female metal band called Kittie. Morgan’s style of singing is a mix of guttural, screechy and clean. The band will leave you confused thinking what’s great about them, is it the totally punk look or the talent that they have. Check it out.

4) Tarja Turunen

Tarja used to be the vocalist of the symphonic metal band, NIghtwish. Her style of singing is operatic and she can hit some pretty impressive pitches. Nightwish has no guttural or screechy vocals, they’re somewhat melodic with a medieval undertone to their music. Let her voice transport your mind back in time, watch the video.

5) Cristina Scabbia

Cristina is an Italian born singer and the vocalist of a band called Lacuna Coil. She has featured in a couple of songs by other artists such as Megadeth (À Tout le Monde) and Alter Bridge (Watch Over Your.) She is also a columnist  for popular rock magazine, Revolver. Cristina’s style of singing is clean, bold and power packed, it is quite unique. Watch the video below.
