Three man eating lions have been caught by the forest authorities and sentenced to a life in cage. The big cats were accused of killing and eating a fourteen year old boy, near the lion sanctuary in Gir National Forest.

According to reports, a total of 6 people have been killed by lions, around the Gir forest in the past 6 months. Forest officials captured 17 lions that were suspected of killing people. After finding strands of human hair in a lion’s fecal matter, the authorities were able identify the male lion and two other female lions that had eaten the 14-year-old.

14 other lions were found innocent and will be released into the wild soon.

The male lion will now spend the rest of it’s life the Junagadh Zoo, while the two female lions will reside in a rescue center.

Forest authorities are trying to still figure out why there have been so many fatalities in the last 6 months, even though lion attacks are rare. People close to the matter suspect that the wildlife sanctuary might be overcrowded with lions. Gir forest only has room for 270 lions, but it currently has 523 of them. This might be causing competition, forcing some lions to venture out into villages.
