Tinder is arguably the most popular dating app in India used mostly age groups of 18 to 34.  Although the application mostly been for singles, that’s all about to change, as the dating service has launched a new update that will enable users to build their friends circle.

Called as Tinder Social, the new feature will allow users to make a group with known friends and allow you to swipe other groups. If any one of your group members likes any other group and if any person from that group likes your group – it becomes a match, allowing the two groups to interact with each other.

“Tinder Social is designed to make it as easy as possible to plan your night, get out into the real world and meet new people. The new feature takes the Tinder experience to a new level, offering our users more ways to expand their social circles and interact with potential matches,” said Sean Rad, CEO and co-founder of Tinder, in a statement.

When Tinder Social was introduced in Australia, it was switched on for all users on default, causing a privacy issue as users could see a list of all their Facebook friends who were using Tinder. However, that is no longer a problem as users who do not wish to be added to groups can opt out of it in their settings and they will not appear on their friends’ lists.

An user can only be part of a single group at a time. However, they  have the option of  leaving a group at any point of time. Any member of a group can assign a status from suggested activities.

Since Tinder is popularly known as a hookup up, such a feature can be perceived to be promoting orgy. However, Taru Kapoor, Head, Tinder India thinks otherwise.

“We’re excited to bring Tinder Social to India. This feature offers a simple, fun way for our users to continue seeking new experiences and forging meaningful connections,” he said.
