22-year-old beats grandmother to death for breaking his mobile phone

A 22-year-old man brutally trashed a 90-year-old woman to death with a wooden plank after she unintentionally damaged his new mobile phone.

The man had left his new phone to charge in the house’s drawing room at Kadirenahalli in Banashankari, Bangalore, on Monday night.

His grandmother Lakshmamma, who had poor eyesight, failed to notice the phone and accidentally tripped on it, dropping the phone and shattering the screen into several pieces.

Shivaraj, who heard the noise, rushed to the drawing room. On finding the mobile phone damaged and in a fit of rage, he grabbed a wooden plank and hit Lakshmamma on her neck. She instantly collapsed with pain.

The other members of the family took her to her bedroom and nursed her to sleep.

On Tuesday morning, Lakshmamma did not respond when the family members tried to wake her up. The family then shifted her to a nearby private hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Banashankari police has sent her body for post-mortem and has arrested Shivaraj.
