Bengaluru: This man milks his donkey and sells it for Rs 50 a spoon

Donkey milk, would you ever include this  into your diet? Well quite a few Bengaluriens seem to be doing so. A man by the name of Krishnappa has turned the process of milking a donkey into a lucrative business.

According to Indiatimes report Krishnappa along with his pet donkey Lakshmi and her calf make rounds through the Bengaluru streets, selling the milk to local residents at Rs. 50 per spoon.

Donkey milk is believed to cure ailments in infants such as asthma, cold, cough. Medical experts believe that the milk contains important antimicrobial components such as Lysozyme  and lactoferrin that help build immunity of a child. It is also found to have a higher protein content than human milk.

The yield is generally low, which is why you don’t see the milk being sold in a widespread commercial scale. However, using of donkey milk is no new concept. Donkey milk has been traditionally used in villages as a substitute for human milk.

It is also said that  Cleopatra, Queen of Ancient Egypt, took baths in donkey milk to preserve the beauty and youth of her skin. Legend has it that over 700 donkeys were needed to provide the quantity of milk necessary for her daily bath.

This was also the case with Poppaea Sabina, the second wife of Roman Emperor Nero. It is believed that donkey milk effaces wrinkles in the face, renders the skin more delicate and preserves its whiteness.

In more recent times donkey milk is still used in the manufacture of soaps and creams. Donkey milk in right proportion is said to cure various skin ailments.
