China likes to be the frontrunner in many things in the world and hold and break records. In another such feat, China is going to build the world’s deepest and the largest high-speed railway station under a section of the Great Wall of China, to prepare for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The station will be at Badaling, which is the most-visited section of the Great Wall. Badaling is about 80km from Beijing and will link the capital to the host city Zhangjiakou for the Olympics. The station will be located 335 ft below the surface, with the underground construction covering an area of almost 3,87,501 sq ft. This area is equal to five football fields.

The construction of the station will use the latest technologies to ensure that it does not affect the Unesco world heritage site in any way. The station will have three floors, with separate levels for arrivals and departures. It will also have two escalators with a vertical rise of 203 feet, which will be the highest in China so far. The length of the line is 174 km and it is expected to open for public in 2019.
