Film-maker Imtiaz Ali is known to be instinctive, often experimenting with emotions and narratives. Socha Na Tha, Highway and Jab We Met explore unusual love stories between characters from varied backgrounds, while Rockstar and Love Aaj Kal depict his love for narratives that dabble the different stages of human lives.

His last film Tamasha was a romantic drama about a man’s journey to break away from the rut to find his true self. The nonlinear narrative may have cost him a blockbuster audience, but it did receive critical acclaim.

The master film-maker presents yet another touching story but through a different medium. Given the popularity of short films on the internet, Imtiaz too forayed into the online film space with his first short film #IndiaTomorrow.  He had earlier shown interest in making a web series, but the short film’s a start!

#IndiaTomorrow explores a unique theme of role reversal where a sex worker teaches a stockbroker client some stock market lessons. The film also features real-life sex workers. It was first screened at the recently concluded India Today Conclave.

As a director who always looks for different avenues and ways to tell his stories, Imtiaz said, “With this short film, I am opening up the doors to the digital world, to conversations with interested people and organizations. I have these powerful, shorter stories that must be told and now can be.” He added, “That they are on the internet, makes access easy and gives them longevity. I think web series, short films are exciting forms that hold potential to bring about change in storytelling and entertainment.”
