Ethical hacker from Kollam bags a bug bounty worth Rs 6.65 lakhs

A computer engineering student from Kollam became richer by Rs 6.65 lakhs after he exposed a serious technical bug in Facebook’s login system. 

Arun S Kumar, a sixth semester student from MES Technology and Management college in Kollam, found this bug which allows a user to sneak into the social networking platform without valid login credentials.

Facebook confirmed the presence of the bug in its subdomain (https://lookaside.facebook.com) after Arun informed the security team about the same. The social networking giant, in return, rewarded the ethical hacker with Rs 6.65 lakhs.

Arun had earlier reported six bugs, but the bounty he received for reporting this bug is the highest! 

Reporting the security breach also earned him a top 10 spot in Facebook’s hall of fame.
