In love at Rio: Athletes who got engaged at the Olympics 2016
Love is in the air for many athletes at Rio. While most athletes are focused on winning medals for their respective countries, there are some athletes who are also celebrating their win with a special personal moment. Here are some instances when athletes went down on their knees and celebrated their love in front of a huge crowd at the Olympics 2016.
He Zi and Qin Kai: 25-year old He Zi won the silver medal for China in the 3-meter springboard event, but she wasn’t expecting to take another plunge. Her long-time boyfriend and fellow Olympic diver Qin Kai went down on his knee and proposed to his girlfriend of six years on the podium, leading to a happy-tearful but memorable moment! Amidst cheers from the spectators, he also presented her with a rose encased in a glass.
Isadora Cerullo and Marjorie Enya: The Brazilian women’s rugby team failed to win a medal, but one of their players, Isadora Cerullo, won the heart of her girlfriend Marjorie Enya. Marjorie, who is also a manager at the stadium, went to the sidelines with heart-shaped balloons and asked Isadora to marry her on the mic. Isadora’s acceptance and the ‘gold ribbon ring’ got wild cheers from her teammates and the spectators and this moment marked a milestone in the LGBT scene of Brazil.
Charlotte Dujardin and Dean Golding: Great Britain’s Charlotte retained her top spot in individual dressage. But what garnered more attention was her fiancé’s marriage proposal as he cheered on from the stands. Dean was wearing a sign that read – Can we get married now? After winning the gold, Charlotte laughed about it in an interview saying that he had made it very public so now she’ll have to marry him!
Tom Bosworth and Harry Dineley: British race walker Tom Bosworth also popped the question to his boyfriend Harry Dineley on a Rio beach. Amidst a heated debate going on about public proposals at the Rio, Tom posted a picture of himself going down on his knees in front of Harry and captioned the image – He said yes!!
