Good news, you don’t have to worry about forgetting your driver’s license or vehicle registration papers anymore. The government has announced that citizens will be able to upload their driver’s license and car registration card to their digital cloud storage app, DigiLocker.

Users will need to register on DigiLocker by providing their mobile number. Once authenticated, they will be sent an OTP (one-time password), which they can use to create an user account.

The app will give users a storage space of 1GB, which can be used to driving licence, insurance papers and other documents. The digital copies will be deemed valid by the traffic police and other related authorities.

DigiLocker is an initiative under Digital India, the Indian Government’s program aimed at transforming India into a digitally empowered society. DigiLocker is a part of Digital India’s vision to provide citizens a shareable private space on a public cloud and making all documents available on this cloud.
