A long standing male bastion in British tradition, Savile Row has finally seen a woman setting up shop in its hallowed portals. Kathryn Sargent made history on Wednesday when she became the first woman master tailor to open her own store on central London’s Savile Row. #37 Savile Row is where Sargent will run her business out of. Kathryn certainly seems to be the right person to be there – she has trained with royal tailor Gieves & Hawkes for 15 years, and also was the first female ‘head cutter’.

The heart of traditional British tailoring, Savile Row epitomizes the fine art of cuts, fabrics, suits and dresses. Kathryn is very proud of her achievements, having been training and working in the Row for about 20 years now. She sees her business as having been born out of the ‘true values of British bespoke tailoring’, and feels that Savile Row is her ‘spiritual home’. She is happy that there are more and more women coming up through the ranks now. While she did make news getting to where she is today, she feels that women in the industry is not going to be so much of a talking point in the future.

She hopes to be an inspiration to many others, making her mark in the industry. Kathryn has dressed many notables in society, including royalty, celebs, politicians and also David Beckham.
