The Bengaluru airport police are in a state of distress as they receive a hijack threat.

Allegedly a jihadist group has threatened to hijack planes at the Kempegowda International Airport and has challenged the police to try and stop them. A letter was sent to chief executive officer of Kempegowda International Airport, stating that three international flights were to be targeted.

KIA police are investigating the case, acting on the complaint that was filed by the airport officer, Manjunath KM. According to the complaint, the threat was received through post on July 18. Allegedly, the sender claimed that his name was  Tayab-ur-Rehman, and that he owns Vintage Tours and Travels, operating from RT Nagar.

However, PS Harsha, the deputy commissioner of police is calling it a hoax.

“We followed all guidelines and standard procedures issued by the ministry of home affairs and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. Only after it became clear that the matter is not a serious one, did we term it a hoax. The person mentioned in the letter was probed thoroughly and he was proved to be innocent. However, we are doing all we can to find out who sent the letter”, said the deputy commissioner to Bangalore Mirror.

The police suspect that the letter was sent out of personal vendetta against the person that was mentioned in the letter.
