Premier Futsal (India) has roped in Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador. The Indian cricket star and Bangalore Royal Challengers’ captain would be associated with the event which is set to kick off in July across eight cities much like the Indian Premier League.

Portuguese football legend Luis Figo is the president of the five-a-side tournament. According to a media release, the Futsal Association of India (FAI), with accreditation from an international governing body ‘Asociación Mundial de Futsal’ (AMF), would govern Premier Futsal.

Both FIFA and the Indian football governing body All India Football Federation (AIFF) had denied Premier Futsal—conducted by the Premier Futsal Management Limited (PFML)—official recognition.

Virat Kohli according to Firstpost said, “We all grew up playing 5-a-side soccer. The combination of speed and flamboyance is what attracts so many people across the globe to watch and play the sport. Futsal is a fast and exciting sport.”

“Futsallers display a lot of flair, skill and swag on the field, which are all qualities I relate to. I am tremendously excited to be a part of Premier Futsal and motivated to positively contribute to the development of this wonderful new sport in India,” he added.

Premier Futsal would kick off in India on 15 July. Each match will be split into two halves of 20 minutes.

Reportedly, 50 International Futsalers, from 4 Continents and 21 countries would participate in this league.
