Biopics are the ‘in thing’ now. But some of these biopics are certainly made at a cost. They run into trouble either before the film is made or after the film is released. Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, in which he plays the character of an Ahmedabad-based smuggler called Latif, has faced constant backlash. Similarly, a film based on the life of politician Indira Gandhi has failed to take off due to legal issues.

The latest film that could possibly face legal action is Azhar—a sports biopic based on the life of the former Indian cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin. The film’s songs and its trailers have garnered a lot of interest among audiences. However, Azharuddin’s former wife Sangeeta Bijlani is unhappy with the film!

Azhar promises to be a money-churner! The film showcases events from the former skipper’s ‘controversial’ life including his rise to stardom, his scandalous love life and the shameful match-fixing allegations. Even though the cricketer has given the film a thumbs up, Sangeeta is livid about her portrayal as the Bollywood bombshell who destroys Azhar’s first marriage. A source close to the actress said that the promos brought back memories of her time with the cricketer and that she might sue the film-makers for showing her in poor light.

Azhar stars Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai and Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles and is slated for release on 13 May, 2016.
