Actor Mohanlal who holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army of India, drew harsh criticism on social media this week for not paying appropriate tributes to Lt. Col Niranjan E Kumar who died in the Pathankot terror attack last Sunday. However, around five days after news about Niranjan’s demise came out, the actor broke silence on Facebook by condoling the mishap.

Social media also disapproved Mohanlal’s lack of interest in turning up for the funeral ceremony of  Niranjan which was held in Mannarkad on Wednesday.

“…No matter how busy he was, he should have come for the funeral ceremony of Shri. Niranjan in Mannarkad. Not just that he did not come, he has not even bothered to condole his death. In the meantime, he has shared updates about his upcoming film on his Facebook page,” noted a user on a Facebook community named Agnamoozhy on Thursday.

Social media users further criticized that such acts by the actor will go against the original interest behind bestowing him with the rank. The rank was bestowed on him with a vision to encourage youngsters to join defence services.

However, taking note of the criticism the actor expressed his grief on Facebook.

“For the last one week ,I have been upset about the pathankot encounter. I don’t have words to console the families of the great warriors who have given their lives for our country. My heart weeps for the families of the pathankot heros. Lt col Niranjan a true patriotic Indian ,we salute you and are proud of you. We will never forget your sacrifice. I pray that God gives strength to the families to hold themselves together. We salute you. God bless the great souls. Jai Hind (sic),” said a post in Mohanlal’s official page on Facebook on Thursday.
