This artist brilliantly captures what famous cartoon characters would look like if they grew old

Part of the reason why cartoons are timeless is that the characters never age. No matter how old you grow with them, they remain evergreen, give you fresh laughs and take you back to your childhood.

But what would life be like if your favourite imaginary friends grew old with you? Can you visualize Bugs Bunny with a walking stick? Or Donald Duck with a pair of prescription glasses? Well, now you can.

Cartoonist and animation artist Andrew Tarusov’s latest illustrations turn that wild thought into reality. And the result, as expected, is depressingly beautiful.

Here are the artist’s own words behind the illustrations:

I imagine, what it look like if cartoon characters got old as an ordinary movie stars. Each of them had a long and complicated life. Micky is the animation tycoon, Goofy didn’t get insurance and became homeless, Daisy left Donald because of his gambling, Tom & Jerry have health problems (thanks for the reckless youth)…
