This Brazilian patient playing the guitar & singing The Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’ during brain surgery will make you smile

When you’re passionate about something, nothing can stop you from doing it, in some cases, not even brain surgery.

A 33-year-old Brazilian patient named Kulkamp Anthony Dias created some beautiful music while a team of surgeons tried to remove a tumour from his brain through a complicated procedure.

Keeping a patient awake during such a delicate surgery, although challenging, is now a standard practice since it allows the doctors to determine how the brain functions with other parts of the body.

Aside from Yesterday, an iconic Beatles song from the hit album Help!, Dias also played a German song he wrote for his son Emmanuel, who was born 15 days after the brain tumour was discovered.

This is not the first instance of a video of a musical performance during surgery going viral.

In 2010, the video of a man playing the violin during an ‘awake brain surgery’ went viral.

In 2013, a patient in the US played the guitar while undergoing surgery to treat Parkinson’s.

And for those wondering what the original Beatles’ track sounded like

Respect, Mr. Dias!
