Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday met the union finance minister Arun Jaitley and the home minister Rajnath Singh and sought more allocation of funds to the financially deficit state after the Telangana breakaway. Naidu was scheduled to meet the union minister of water resources Uma Bharti in Delhi.

AP state government’s special representative in Delhi Kambhampati Rammohan Rao and the state municipal and urban development minister P Narayana accompanied the chief minister. Naidu spoke with the media at AP Bhavan after the meeting with the union ministers.

Naidu said that he elaborated on the issue of the meagre revenue from the state’s industrial and service sectors. He stressed that the Centre must accord special status to Andhra Pradesh because of the 16,000 crore fiscal deficit caused to the state since the formation of Telangana, and reminded the ministers about the promises made at the time of the division. Naidu said that Andhra Pradesh was deprived of a principal revenue generating city as Hyderabad is now a part of Telangana. He put forth the request for huge financial assistance in building the new capital city Amaravati.

Naidu revealed his efforts to collect funds for Amravati. He said the Singapore government had helped the state prepare a master plan for the proposed capital city. The United Kingdom has supposedly signed an MoU to help build Amravati. He added that a proposed investors’ meeting will be held in London to attract investments to the state.
