‘Mruthasanjeevani’ is a mythical herb that Hanuman fetched from Dronagiri in the Himalaya mountain ranges to restore the life of Lord Rama’s brother Lakshmana who was wounded during a fierce battle against the asura king Ravana.

Taking cue from the mythological text, the hill state of Uttarakhand is all set to launch an incredible and expensive hunt for the herb which may or may not have life-saving properties.

According to a report published by NDTV, Uttarakhand will shell out Rs 25 crores of the taxpayers’ money to track down the herb.

Even though a plethora of medicinal herbs could be spotted among the rich flora of the Himalayas, there has hardly been any evidence that substantiates the existence of the ‘Sanjeevani’ herb.

“We have to try and it will never go to waste. If we are determined we will certainly find it,” Surendra Singh Negi, the state’s minister for alternative medicine, was quoted by AFP.

The search which is scheduled to start in August will focus on the Dronagiri range of Himalayas near the Sino-Indian border in the state.
