Good music never fails to enthrall human minds, even if the creator isn’t a star or decorated with awards. So, when Sonu Nigam agreed to be a part of a social experiment conducted by Being Indian, the result was nothing short of beautiful.

Sonu Nigam dressed as a destitute man wielding a harmonium sat by a busy street in Mumbai, and his magical music was sufficient to gather an appreciative crowd. Nobody seemed to recognize the musician’s true identity. People from different walks of life were stopped in their tracks as he serenaded them without intent or expectations. One such person even knelt and asked him: Dada, aapne nastha khaya kya? (Brother, have you eaten breakfast?)

“I went out to do this without any expectations, totally bereft of any awkwardness for the way I was looking and what I was about to subject myself,” Sonu said in statement.

“For the first time, I was not me. The make-up was so good and authentic that people standing so close to me, couldn’t recognise,” he added.

He also shared that the harmonium he used was bought by his parents when he was born.

“It was all so humbling. And from such an unfamiliar zone, I managed to procure something. Gratitude, grace and appreciation for what we have,” he went on to say.
