Frustrated over the loss of title – Open Defecation Free (ODF) district, government officials of Yamunanagar district in Haryana have decided to monitor villagers who resort to defecate openly!

Yamunagar lost to neighboring Panchkula and Sirsa. Chief Minister of the state Manohar Khattar had declared Panchkula and Sirsa as ODF districts on last Saturday.

The drones are proposed to be deployed to monitor open areas. According to officials people are found to be doing the business in open despite having functional toilets at their residences. According to report appeared in The Times of India, six villages of Bilaspur block of the district will be put under the drone scanners.

Local authorities have vowed to deal the ‘culprits’ ‘sternly’.
A committee has been set up to make the plan work. The committee is comprised of representatives from the six villages and officials. The panel would ensure proper functioning of the drone and analyze the details gathered by it.
“We have paid Rs 3,000 for renting the drone for use in seven panchayats. Now the trial report will be submitted to the top officials of district administration, who will decide whether to continue,” , Assistant Coordinator of Swach Bharat Abhiyan Bhupender Singh was quoted by The Times of India.

According to the plan, the drone will monitor areas in Kakroni, Feruwala, Harnoli, Ramagarmajra, Khera Brahmin, and Sahpur villages between 5 am and 9 am.

“If it really helps make the area ODF, we will go ahead and buy some drones of our own,” Singh added.
