The supreme court has expressed its displeasure over zero per cent admissions in 398 state schools in Telangana. The apex court questioned the government why the schools were neglected, especially when the state was established only a couple of years before.

The court stated that the government wasn’t taking appropriate steps to attract children to these schools. It instructed the government to submit a report within one month. The case was adjourned to 10 May for further hearing.

“Schools without students are like a dead human being,” a puzzled supreme court bench commented. A case was filed in the court regarding the poor infrastructure and unfilled vacancies of teachers in schools across both the Telugu states—Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

In its response, the Telangana government told the court that it would shut down schools that have registered zero per cent admissions and that it would recruit teachers to fill the existing vacancies.
