Sports films are only just coming into their own in Indian cinema. The latest, Saala Khadoos, set in the gritty world of boxing, got the thumbs up from critics, but didn’t quite set the box-office on fire. The film, directed by Sudha Kongara and starring Madhavan whose performance has been lauded, was also made in Tamil as Irudhi Suttru. This version has seen more success than the Hindi one.

And now, the film has got a boost from none other than boxing legend Mike Tyson. He took to his Facebook page to say ‘I’d like to see this boxing film.’

Naturally, the makers of Irudhi Suttru are thrilled and so is Madhavan, who plays an embittered boxer who returns to the sport to coach a girl he believes is a champion in the making. It was with Irudhi Suttru that the actor returned to Tamil cinema after a gap of four years. He has put in a lot of effort beefing up for the role and looking the part. Mike Tyson’s interest in the film will certainly seem like it’s been worth all the trouble.
