Dumb thieves mistake SBI’s passbook printing machine for ATM, get nabbed

Resembling a comic thriller movie, four men who considered themselves ‘thieves’ were caught red handed in Assam, after they tried to flee with an ATM ‘passbook printing‘ machine which they had mistaken for cash vending machine.

According to a report in The Assam Tribune the incident happened in Guwahati . The four were apprehended by Fatasil police on Monday night.

Police officials who were on regular night patrol duty noticed a car with a VIP badge passing and decided to intercept the dubious passengers of in the four-wheeler.

The gang realized the blunder of carrying the wrong machine only after police apprehended them. The gang had uprooted a pass printing machine belonging to State Bank of India.

Police are currently investigating how the four local men, identified as Saiful Rahman, Mainul Haque, Saddam Hussain and Sahab Ali, managed to get their hands on the VIP car.

Theft and other criminal case related to ATM vending machines have become common across the nations. There have been instances when robbers ‘lifted’ the whole ATM machine itself.

Just this month, an ATM machine with Rs 7 lakh in it was stolen in Jharkhand. In 2013, a woman was brutally bludgeoned in Bangalore by an assailant who tried to steal cash from her in an ATM.

Till date Bangalore police has been unsuccessful in identifying and detaining the culprit. However, despite suffering serious head injuries the woman survived.
