Following the earthworm incident that recently occurred in their Gurgaon outlet, Wendy’s India have come out with a strong statement promising to augment a more stringent quality control procedure in their stores.

Speaking to Folomojo the company stated, “We at Wendy’s India are deeply committed to our customers. Nothing is more important to us than the quality and integrity of our food.”

“This is an isolated incident involving one customer. We have taken the matter very seriously. We are reinforcing our stringent quality control (for lettuce prep) procedures (with our restaurant team),” adds one of the world’s leading fast-food chains.

The company, which recently made its India debut in Gurgaon’s Sector 29, faced its first hiccup when Delhi-based Pooja Kapoor found a fairly large size earthworm in her mushroom burger. Upon inquiring with the store manager, he responded saying that the earthworm might have been in the lettuce.  This incident set social media abuzz, with reactions coming in from different quarters. (Read more)

Keeping in mind the seriousness of this issue, the Wendy’s India team immediately reached out to Pooja Kapoor and assured her the company was working very hard to address her concern.

According to reports in the media, “Wendy’s India aims to delight their customers by offering great quality food and drinks, great environment and design, and great service. When we have proven ourselves in the NCR region we plan to expand and serve more customers around India.”

Jasper Reid, director of the holding companies of Wendy’s and Jamie’s Italian in India and of IMM in the UK, also spoke to Folomojo and added that the company has taken serious note of the Gurgaon earthworm incident and assured their commitment towards  the company’s Food Ethos of using only the best ingredients.

“Wendy’s is built on a Food Ethos that demands this level of quality and the ability to deliver consistently every day. We are dedicated to ensuring customers get the best food, ingredients and that there is no compromise in our ethos which has remained the same for almost half a century,” he said.

The Gurgaon earthworm incident brings focus back on the importance of serving not only delicious but even hygienic food to food lovers. Agreed that such slip-ups can occur even  in the best of the best restaurants across the world, but we at Folomojo only wish that something like this doesn’t happen again and we wish Wendy’s the best in this endeavour.
